Name: Hokori, Sailor Pride Age: 18 Birthday: June 27th Color: The 8 Colors of the Rainbow (Yes, 8, not 7 ... 8) Main Attacks, Labrys Strike: Forms a fairly large ethereal Labrys (double edged axe) which is launched towards the enemy. Ultimate Attack, Rainbow Fireflies: Summons multiple glowing balls of energy which explode upon impact. Viewable in the image above.
The elaborate design of this picture took some time to finalize. From her locket, also the character’s transformation device, which shows the 8 colors of the original Pride Flag, to the gloves and boots, also reflecting the flag, each detail reflects one symbol or another of the gay community.
The triangular shape of the character’s fringe as well as the inverted triangle marking on her cheek, are reference to the pink triangle which original intended as a badge of shame, yet has nowadays become an international symbol of gay pride and the gay rights movement.
The pink triangle is only second in popularity when compared to the well renowned rainbow flag, who’s colors, even though nowadays were dropped down to only 6, were original 8. The colors, pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, violent and indigo, represented sexuality, life, healing, sunlight, nature, arts, serenity and spirit respectively. I used these colors over the gems in the character’s locket, as well as her gloves and boots.
As a small inside joke, I also placed a set of fairy wings on the character’s back, as a mockery of the derogative term “fairy.”
There are so many reasons why I personally –had- to draw this picture. I won’t really go into that. What I do want to get into however, is thanking 3 people for being such an inspiration and such help to me.
First off, *iamymai for creating the first Sailor Gay Pride, which is what started this idea in the first place. I congratulate her for her work and thank her for being such an inspiration.
Secondly, one of my bestestestest friends ~whisperelmwood for being so sweet, kind and lovely to me all the time, and for helping me out to correct some minor details. She listens to my ranting about my own work constantly and keeps me going more than she could ever know. Much love to her for everything she does for me!
And last but not least, the one and only !DracheaRannak which is one of my all-time favourite artists here on DeviantArt. I have watched and studies his art style for many seasons now, and I have to say that almost no one I have come across has nailed the classical anime style scene in series such as Sailor Moon and Saint Seiya (two of my most favourite anime ever) as much as he did. Through watching his work and reading his 2 tutorials over and over, I have learned how to color and refine my work as much as possible. I cannot thank him enough for sharing his work with us all, and for being such a sweet and kind person to me, listening to my ramblings on msn and whatnots!
Big hugs to all 3!
Now before I start giggling like a foaming fangirl, I’ll leave you with the picture.
Even though I did edit that text/poem found in the background, I did NOT write it myself. Unfortunately, many people have posted this poem online, both in and outside of DeviantArt, and even though I tried my best, i could not find the original writer, hence, am not able to give the appropriate credit.
I truly apologise for this.
I also would like to credit !DracheaRannak for his tutorials, without which, I couldn’t have possibly achieved the result above.
This is so beatiful and I wish we really did have a Sailor Pride for all the people that don't feel as though they can be themselves because of how harmful society can be. I'm Bisexual and proud, I hope some day, people don't have to be afraid of who they are anymore.
although i am straight myself, and was brought up christian, i fully support the LGBT community. God claims to love all people, and wants everyone happy, but shuns those who love people not always their own gender? thats why i no longer believe in religion, everyone has a right to be happy. but on the flip side, not everyone HAS to accept this, although, they should keep their hateful, degrading, rude, innopropriate, and down right inexcusable comments to themselves. The world has forgotten what matters most, Love. the discrimination and rejecting that goes on has the potential to decimate lives, lives that people have every right to live, and they had no right to end. pictures like this should be made more often, so maybe some people can be saved from the deadly poison called itself hate and fear that worms its way into our world.
You know, when I first saw this picture in 7th grade, I didn't understand the true concept of what you were trying to show. Now that I'm much older and not afraid to admit that I like yaoi, I understand it now. The name "Sailor Pride" truly does suit him, for his amazing rainbow colours represent gay pride. I think Lucaito would love this guy because he's a rare male senshi. I still wonder if I'll ever get this good with the current skills I have ...
